Clague Middle School

Winter 2012 Update

What’s Happening?

PHS activities start in all 12 sixth grade advisory classrooms in mid-January. Our annual PHS kick-off takes place in the cafeteria before the activities begin.

Relay for Hunger

Clague Middle School participated in its first Relay for Hunger on November 15.

  • It's modeled after the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life"
  • Students donated 3,094 cans of food, weighing 2,610 pounds to Food Gatherers.
  • Over three shifts, all students walked for a total of 90 minutes.
  • Arlene Degutis from the American Cancer Society motivated the students with inspirational facts about hunger in the community.
  • Students learned about why exercise and healthy eating is important for our overall health and cancer prevention while helping out their community.

Clague hopes that this will become an annual fall event

Cafeteria Updates

Chef Neil from Chartwells served up a tasty daikon salad during the Farm to School program in October. Students watched and learned as Chef Neil created the salad and provided samples to enjoy.

Health Team Updates

The Clague Wellness Team met regularly during the fall semester, planning the Relay for Hunger, a volleyball tournament and thinking ahead to the annual 5K. Many thanks goes out to Clague's Wellness Champion, Ellen Hopkins who is leading the effort to a healthier school.

Looking Ahead

As the cold temperatures arrive, the annual Beach Volleyball tournament begins! All students will participate in advisory teams and play in an NCAA style bracket tournament. The final game features the winning classroom from each grade taking on the teachers. Go Cougars!
